How Big Is God In Your Life Today?

Read This: “They will proclaim the splendor of your kingdom; they will tell about your power, so that mankind might acknowledge your mighty acts, and the majestic splendor of your kingdom. Your kingdom is an eternal kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The Lord supports all who fall, and lifts up all who are bent over.” (Psalm 145:11-14)

Think: Life happens—the good, the bad, and the ugly. Today God may seem far away, he may be very present in the storm you’re facing right now, or for many just somewhere in between. No matter what our circumstances, it’s always good to be reminded that we serve a mighty and victorious God.

There may be times we forget how big God is when everything is good. Life is easy; we have money and friends, everyone is healthy, and we’re successful at work or whatever it is that keeps us busy during the day. The temptation is to start thinking, yeah, I got this. Nothing’s going wrong, so we don’t really need God around so much. While it’s hard to admit, our actions are saying I am so big, so strong, and so mighty, there’s not much that I cannot do. We turn God into our fix-it guy; the one we call as soon as things start to fall apart and we figure out we sang that part of the song wrong.

But we especially need to be reminded of how big our God is when the rug is pulled out from under us. We’re brought to our knees and realize our fragility and helplessness in the face of what seems an impossible mountain to climb. But our God who spoke the universe into existence, who parted the Red Sea, who conquered sin and death on the cross, who was and is and is to come—He is there. And yes, He’s got this! Psalm 144 says, “Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle; he is my steadfast love and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer” (v. 1-2).

God is so much more than we can ever understand. However big we believe him to be, he’s bigger. However strong, he’s stronger. And however loving, he’s more loving. Like Little Billy sang, yes, our big and mighty God loves us.

Ask: How big is God in your life today? Are you struggling to give him that place of honor in your life? Or do you secretly doubt he’s able to more than you ask or imagine? If you’re hurting, do you trust him to heal you and bring you through the pain?

Pray: Spend some time reflecting on God’s mighty works. Thank him for his creation and the ways he’s displayed his power in your life. Finally, ask him to help you see him more clearly and never cease to be amazed by how big and mighty he really is.
