Father's Day for the Fatherless

There's really no denying that days like Father's Day can be tough for people (like myself) who don't have much or any of a Dad to speak of. Growing up, and even now, I cling to Psalm 68:5 where scripture says God is a "father to the fatherless." No matter who you are...guy or girl, man or woman...EVERYONE wants to know what it's like to have a true Daddy. Sometimes that craving (which we're made with, by the way) can lead us to search for satisfaction in empty wells. And that's something of which every fatherless kid needs to be very aware....because the craving has a way of sneaking up on you. If our father hunger is not satisfied in Him, we'll spend our whole lives chasing that security in all kinds of idols. But what's beautiful is that there is adoption into our forever-family available through Jesus. In Him, we have the privilege of coming to the God who made us, crawling up in His lap and calling Him not just "Father," but Abba..."Daddy."

"For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory." ~Romans 8:14-17

Happy Father's Day, Dads. We celebrate fatherhood! You have no idea how important you are.
