Freedom Explained

Read This:

Colossians 1:13-14: He delivered us from the power of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Think:

Every summer, there’s a recurring theme I can’t help but think about. Part of the reason for my fixation on this theme is that my kids are off from school. Part of it is because the weather is so glorious. And part of it is that we get a handful of holidays that emphasize this theme, which very obviously is the theme of delicious grilled food.

I’m kidding about it being the theme. But not about grilled food being delicious because it totally is.

The theme, as I’m sure you figured out, is freedom. Maybe it’s just me, but the idea of freedom in the summer feels so bold and underlined. So evident and undeniable.

And the oft-recited companion of freedom is the idea to what? To not take it for granted. And this is true. It’s such a privilege and such a blessing that those of us who have it shouldn’t ignore how precious a gift it is.

There’s another freedom we have that is equally precious: the freedom of Christ.

Even though it’s the most important freedom Christians have, it’s also one that can be easily taken for granted. But we can’t let that be! It is enormously important to never forget the price Christ paid on the Cross and to never forget the urgency of His commission to tell others.

Regardless of the season of your life, let the truth of that freedom ring loud in your heart. Doing that will allow you to live without the burden of sin but also to help show others the redemption of his grace.

Comment:

What are some specific freedoms you have that you‘ve taken for granted? What are some ways you can think of to avoid that?

Pray:

God, thank you so much for all the freedoms that you give us both big and small. There are so many things and so many ways that you make our lives easier and more freeing and yet we never take enough time to thank you. Help me to not only take advantage of the freedoms you’ve given me but to help others find that same peace and joy that I’ve found.
