Heart & Mind Check - Devotional

Read This: For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. (John 3:17-18)

Think: We always hear people talk about the "reason for the season", but do we actually take the time to sit and reflect on why every year we put up a tree, go on endless shopping sprees to find the perfect gifts, and gather together to eat a good meal with friends and family? While all of these are beautiful things, none of them are truly what it's about.

We celebrate because of the hope that we have inside of us. If Christ had never sent His son to earth to take the place of our sins as the perfect sacrifice, we would have no reason to celebrate. However, we have hope because He did! We celebrate this holiday season because we have a hope for a life beyond this earth with the most perfect father and savior.

Take some time today and ask the Lord to fill your heart with gratitude for this hope. Then joyfully celebrate this season with the ones around you.

Ask: Have I taken the time to sit and reflect this holiday season on the real reason for the season?

Pray: Father, I thank you for your son. I thank you that we have hope in a life after this one. I thank you that I can joyfully give because you gave your son for me. Help me to never forget the real reason we celebrate. Amen
