Read This: “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45)
Watch This:
Think: As a new year begins, it's a great opportunity to step back and reflect on who Jesus is and what He has called us to do. It's so easy to get wrapped up in our own lives that we fail to notice people around us who are struggling. Look. Listen. Ask God how you can be used by Him in the lives of hurting people.
It will probably mean putting your own wants and needs on the back burner. It will probably cost you something (time, energy, emotion, maybe even money). When that sounds like an inconvenience, look to Jesus. He came to fulfill the promise God made to His chosen people. He didn't come with his own agenda and a bucket list He hoped to cross off. He came for the hurting, the broken, the lost. He came for you and for your neighbor. He came for the annoying person at school or work who you try to avoid.
This year (well, really, every year!), take a memo from Jesus, and show mercy to others. Be kind and serve others. Build people up. Forgive them. Love them. And when you feel like you can't do it all on your own, that's OK. You're not meant to do it alone. Trust that God is with you every step of every day, and ask Him to guide you and give you strength to live your life like His Son.
Ask: Who around me is hurting or in need, and how can God use me to help?
Pray: Ask God to open your eyes and fill you with His compassion and love. Pray that He will give you everything you need to be able to serve and love others the way Jesus does.
